Especially for Students

You are at a unique and exciting time in your life. The following What Would Jesus Drive Pledge for Students has been designed to fit who you are. Please consider it prayerfully.

Pollution from cars hurts people and the rest of God's creation. Driving impacts human health, contributes to global warming, and increases our reliance on oil from unstable countries and environmentally sensitive areas. It's time Christians did something about this, because Jesus called us to love our neighbor as ourselves (Mk. 12:30-31) and do unto others as we would have them do unto us (Lk. 6:31).

Confessing Jesus Christ to be my Savior and Lord, including Lord of my transportation choices, I pledge the following.

• If my community is pedestrian-friendly and has good public transportation, I will choose an apartment/home that makes it easy to walk, bike, and use public transportation.
• If I need a car, my first (or next) car will be the most fuel efficient, least polluting vehicle that truly fits my needs.
• I will discuss the ethics of our transportation choices with others. I will contact government leaders to ask them to support public transportation, increased fuel economy standards, transportation R&D, and protection of places like ANWR. I will also contact automobile manufacturers and dealers and let them know my generation wants clean, efficient cars and trucks.
